Death Hollow
Talk about a high adventure trip.  Death Hollow is about as high adventure as they come.  You start out in the mountains, and decend rapidly to the desert through a wash.  Soon the trail narrows and you find yourself dropping off of chockstones into cold water below.  Then you must wade and swim your pack through the frigid pools, while avoiding poison ivy and drenching your pack and it's contents.  All I can say, is I can't wait to go again.  It's hard to describe the wonderful feel of the desert, but my father's words in the following poem, and my pictures below do an OK job.....at least until you can visit yourself.
Enjoy!
Pilgrimage
       I come seeking Spirit
                           Deep and strong among
                                                  Sandstone Cliffs
The sun drenched guardians of secret places
                           Green and wet
                                                   Where toads chant
                                                                         And coyotes come to dance
Silent Sentinels rising into cobolt skies
                           Ablaze with searing heat
Curing desert varnish like a kiln
Ancient petroglyphs still fresh in their memories
       Their ageless faces comfort
                            When change disrupts
       Their wisdom wispers intimation
                             Of who I am
       Solid.  Strong.
                             They cover my weakness
                                                     Calm my fear
Their serenity seeps into my soul
                               Clearing confusion
                                                       Defining priorities
                                                                          Touching Deity
       I come reverently, on foot
                                Shed of all but basics
                                                        To feel the Spirit
                                                                          Ancient
                                                                          Unspeakable
       It permeates their rhelm
                               If only we listen
